Prepping for 2023

As we head into a new year, I find myself scrambling to complete all of the things that I've put off since September. Procrastination is what I do best. The winter/off-season feels long, but it really flies by. Anyways, enough of me talking about time and the weather. Let's get right to it: here's the latest updates on the racecars.

The '1986 Mustang that we took on this summer as a personal-Wheelock-family project, is getting an interior facelift. Dustin is also working hard on replacing all of the bolts so that they all match. While we work on the small things, the engine is off being refreshed at BES. The engine should hopefully be done by the end of this month. Although we didn't get many passes with this new (to us) car before the season ended, one of the bigger issues we faced was getting the car to not wheelie. We hung an additional 70 pounds of lead to the front of the car and it still just wanted to back flip! I think that means this car is going to rip once we figure it out, right? We plan on running the car in NMCA's Extreme Street class.

For any newbies here, the factory super cars (Dragpak and COPO Camaros) are owned by Alsop Automotive Group and I've been blessed enough to get the opportunity to drive them. Here's the latest scoop on those beauties:

The Dodge Challenger Dragpak's engine was taken out this weekend, on NYE actually. That process went really smooth as we had two friends help. Having good friends, and good help like that are truly priceless. We are so thankful! That engine will be sent off to be refreshed as well. It likely won't be done in time for any races in March, so we will wait and see what that timeline looks like. We ended the season well with the car as we had finally found 7.9x second passes in it, however as usual...that's not good enough. We have a lot left to figure out. We need data, which means we need to test, test, test! We also know the car weighs too much on the front which isn't doing us any favors.

The gray COPO Camaro is sitting pretty waiting on standby. The 50 pound weight break that the NHRA gave us last year undoubtedly gave us a little more, but it wasn't enough to find us a round win. Unfortunately, we didn't test enough to have the tune and right gear dialed in so we basically hurt that engine. We were wildly unprepared, but that is how it goes when you do this on the side.

The red COPO Camaro just arrived back home. It has been in North Carolina at a shop for over a year. We had put it to the side until we figured out how to run one Camaro well before trying to run both. The plans for the car are unknown, but we will likely be assembling it in what little downtime we have.

I received a new camera for Christmas so that is my personal goal is to post one YT video a week. It will be hard to find the motivation to do it, but I had to choose a goal, may as well be one that has to do with racing right?

We will be posting our 2022 recap with the kids sharing our favorite racing memories from each month. It was full of wild times, so I can't wait to hear what stuck out to them the most.

I hope you all are entering this new year with hope and a desire to shine bright to others, the world needs you in it!
